BC: Sweat the Debt (July 9 and 10 Tour Report)

Author: Jordan Bateman 2013/07/11

The B.C. Debt Clock tour has wrapped up, and what a whirlwind it was.

On Tuesday, July 9, we were in 100 Mile House, Williams Lake and Quesnel. I had never visited the three cities before, so I was glad for the opportunity. 100 Mile House has a beautiful park downtown, Centennial Park, which includes some impressive waterfalls. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

We had a great response to the clock in 100 Mile House, with a number of people and media stopping by the local Tim Hortons to see the numbers spin. Williams Lake was also busy.

Quesnel was our quietest spot, but I was very happy to meet a few of our CTF supporters and to take a walk across the impressive heritage bridge.

Our final stop was Prince George on Wednesday morning, July 10. Prince George, the gateway to B.C.’s north, is buzzing with activity these days, and both media and public turned out in good numbers to see the clock. We made the front page of the Citizen, and I was also interviewed on the city’s ongoing core services review. It was a great way to finish off the trip.

The clock is now en route to Calgary, where it will get some maintenance done, before winding its way across the country to be used in the late summer by Ontario director Candice Malcolm as the Ontario Debt Clock.

A special thanks to all those people and media who came out to see the clock these past few weeks, and to the many donors who dug deep to make the tour possible. Thank you!
